چکیده

In voice-driven sound synthesis applications, phonetics convey musical information that might be related to the sound of an imitated musical instrument. Our initial hypothesis is that phonetics are userand instrumentdependent, but they remain constant for a single subject and instrument. Hence, a user-adapted system is proposed, where mappings depend on how subjects performs musical articulations given a set of examples. The system will consist of, first, a voice imitation segmentation module that automatically determines noteto-note transitions. Second, a classifier determines the type of musical articulation for each transition from a set of phonetic features. For validating our hypothesis, we run an experiment where a number of subjects imitated real instrument recordings with the voice. Instrument recordings consisted of short phrases of sax and violin performed in three grades of musical articulation labeled as: staccato, normal, legato. The results of a supervised training classifier (user-dependent) are compared to a classifier based on heuristic rules (userindependent). Finally, with the previous results we improve the quality of a sample-concatenation synthesizer by selecting the most appropriate samples.

What sound does that taste? Cross-modal mappings across gustation and audition.

All people share implicit mappings across the senses, which give us preferences for certain sensory combinations over others (eg light colours are preferentially paired with higher-pitch sounds; Ward et al, 2006 Cortex 42 264-280). Although previous work has tended to focus on the cross-modality of vision with other senses, here we present evidence of systematic cross-modality between taste and...

Outlines of Burcas - A simple concatenation-based MIDI-to-singing voice synthesis system

The present paper outlines a simple system (yet to be completed) for concatenation-based singing synthesis in Swedish. The system, called Burcas, takes as input a MIDI file (possibly holding multiple parts) for melody and a text file for lyrics, and it produces standard audio files as output. For the digital signal processing, the MBROLA speech generator is employed. Burcas consists of an input...

A knowledge-based, data-driven method for action-sound mapping

This paper presents a knowledge-based, data-driven method for using data describing action-sound couplings collected from a group of people to generate multiple complex mappings between the performance movements of a musician and sound synthesis. This is done by using a database of multimodal motion data collected from multiple subjects coupled with sound synthesis parameters. A series of sound...

Develop a Model of Ethical Components of Participation in the Phonetic Behavior of Employees

Background: Employee participation in the organization and hearing their voices is one of the ways to increase and strengthen the spirit of criticism and teamwork with the aim of increasing productivity in organizations. The purpose of this study is to develop a model of ethical components of participation in the phonetic behavior of employees. Method: The research method is heuristic. The sta...

Multimodal HMM-based NAM-to-speech conversion

Although the segmental intelligibility of converted speech from silent speech using direct signal-to-signal mapping proposed by Toda et al. [1] is quite acceptable, listeners have sometimes difficulty in chunking the speech continuum into meaningful words due to incomplete phonetic cues provided by output signals. This paper studies another approach consisting in combining HMM-based statistical...
